mommy tsunami-a grassroots movement started in Yuba City

A few months back we had the honor of meeting with Amy and Mary. Two of the founders of the grassroots movement Mommy Tsunami. Together they shared their story on their battle against a poorly monitored system that was trying to cut funds that are set in place to keep those with developmental disabilities in their own homes and communities. Amy and Mary decided that instead of turning a blind eye to the unfair situation, they were going to make a wave.

They rallied together hundreds of other individuals within our community to "save the Lanterman Act" as budget cuts threaten to end the support that allows the disabled to live life right here, just like you and I.

We were proud to be able to design the logo to represent this cause as well as a handbill that was distributed all across California and even ended up in the state capitol building.

The Mommy Tsunami logo was initially hand drawn by Billy and then he digitally traced it for the finished logo. I loved that we were able to also incorporate a symbol for the state capitol in place of the letter 'a' in the word wave at the bottom. Mommy Tsunami did not want a "cutesy" logo...they wanted people to know they meant business and I think the dark colors paired with the thick, bold lettering help to accomplish just that.

Their story has made headlines more than once in our local paper, The Appeal Democrat and has also been featured on KCRA Channel 3 news.

As of now, they have completed the majority of their journey, and tomorrow marks the day they will deliver a copy of the Lanterman Act to the Governor and demand that he holds the distributing center for these funds accountable.

We are so proud of them and the mission they are accomplishing.
